Minutes of October 7, 2010 The meeting of the KCMS was called to order by Match Director, Rod McCracken at 6:00 p.m. at the Nelson County Public Library. The following were in attendance; Rod McCracken, Angie Greenwell, Clay Greenwell, Ruth McCracken, Dennis Ellis, Linda Ellis, Sarah Hayes, John Ashbaugh, Brenda Ashbaugh, Robert Pickerill, David Maddox, Caroline Maddox, Giland Thornton, John Thornton. Rod introduced our new Range Master, John Ashbaugh and welcomed two new members, John and his wife Brenda. Minutes of the 9-8-2010 meeting were read and approved as read. Treasurer’s report was approved as read, our balance is $320.00. New Business The CMSA will no longer honor the day membership but has started an associate membership instead which will be honored for the fiscal year from October to October for a $35.00 fee. John, Range Master, will check with the ATF for clarification on minors handling firearms. Rod has ordered CMSA certified ammo and balloons. Open ended reloadable blanks are not to be used for an event but may be used for practice. Rod will sell balloons for 10 cents each and ammo for 50 cents each to club members during practice. This is at cost. Members may use these balloons or their own for practice but not for an event. Members are to see John Ashbaugh, Range Master, about reloads. Angie researched banners and has found that Smith Brothers or Clarks Distributing can do this at a small cost or free. There is a problem with an alcohol advertisement; they can substitute Monster if we purchase two cases first. Angie shared with the members about ordering shirts with our logo. The cost would be $10.00 at The Shirt Shop. Sarah Hayes will check with another establishment to see if we can get a lower price. General meetings are scheduled monthly. Practices are scheduled two per month. It was discussed that practices could be mandatory for members as we get closer to our first match. Practice is scheduled on the first and third Saturday of each month. For this month that would be October 2 and October 16 from 10:00 to 12: 00 at High Trail Arabians; 989 South Stillwell Road; Boston, Kentucky. Our next public meeting for members on November 4th at 6:00 p.m. at the Nelson County Public Library is cancelled. The Maddox family has an hour drive and said if they had to choose they would choose the practice at High Trail. Everyone agreed. The next executive meeting is scheduled for November 5th at 6:00 at Rockin E Stables; 923 Caney Fork Road; Bardstown, Kentucky. At some point, as the club grows we may have to schedule practices at the Fair Grounds. For the practice /seminar All attendees will be in good standing with KCMS. Good standing is a member of KCMS whose dues are paid and up to date. Attendees should have a .45 cowboy action pistol as described by the CMSA and a rig/ holster. Rod McCracken will have CMSA certified blank ammo available 20 blanks for $10.00 or 50 cents per blank load. You can also buy CMSA certified blanks from Buffalo Blanks, Whitehouse Blanks or Circle E Blanks. They are available on the CMSA web site. Balloons are 10 cents each. Bring eye and ear protection if you desire. Bring your horse if you are ready to start. John has contacted Taylor about becoming a dealer. Their gun is about $75 cheaper than the Ruger. Any size barrel will work; 5 and a half or 5 and a quarter barrel, 3 and a half, 4 and three quarters or 7 inch. Vaquara seems to be the favorite among shooters. Colts range about $1,200 to $1,500. The length of the barrel is really up to the shooter, Ear protection is available for your horse but is not recommended by Rod. If a horse should lose a plug, he could spook. It takes 24 hours to get a horse use to ear plugs. Ruth will ask Dr. Hubbard if this is a health issue for horses. Caroline will also ask her friend that is a vet if this could be a health issue for horses. Possible fundraisers were discussed; bake sales, rummage sales, trail rides and cook-outs. The officers decided on a club sponsored trail ride on November 13th. This will be a trail ride/cook out at the High Trail Arabian Farm. Suggested fee is $15.00 per person or $25.00 a family. Rod passed out a flyer containing information on the Clay Target Shooting Fundraiser Extravaganza, and the Mounted Lawn-tractor Balloon Shoot see attached. Rod shared a video about training your horse and what can happen if you don’t. Open Discussion Dennis passed out membership cards for all paid members and stated that he would accept membership payments tonight. Clay would be glad to share his gun if someone wants to try it out. Poco will also be available if someone would like to borrow him. 10 to 15 feet is an optimal range for shooting balloons. The blank will break a balloon at 20 feet but wind sometimes becomes an issue. Helmet, eye and ear protection is mandatory for children. It is not mandatory for adults. Brenda Ashbaugh volunteered to be the club score keeper. County Court Days in Mt Sterling, KY has a festival where they sell guns. It may be an outlet to purchase a gun John shared that you need to buy your two guns at least seven days apart or the seller will have to send a multiple gun purchase to the sheriff and ATF. Robert Pickerill official joined the club. Welcome. The meeting was adjourned at 7:13 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Linda Ellis Secretary |
